Today we went into Amsterdam again to meet up with my sister Mara who lives in Singapore. She was meeting Liam for the first time. This is what greeted me when I went in to get Liam from his morning nap:
And once again, we had drinks along the canal. Here’s Mara showing her vampiric side:
And having a good time with an active little Liam (like there’s any other sort):
After we (my friend BG was there as well) left Mara, we sat for a while by the Homomonument for a snack. Now, Amsterdam is famous for letting it all hang out, but in this case it was perhaps a bit much: there was a guy behind us peeing – in itself not unusual there, but this guy eschewed the normal wall for a more free ranging pee, walking about letting it hang freely and let loose. Interesting.
Then a wee bit more of a wander before having dinner at a nice Indian restaurant. Liam, being his normal self, charmed the restaurant staff. There was also a little girl of about 18 months there for dinner and at one point we mums “introduced” the kids to each other. They had quite a charming little interaction, reaching for each other and smiling and “talking” and during it I looked over to see a couple of guys from the kitchen staff as well as the (male) wait staff all watching with smiles on their faces.
On the train in I’d sat beside a couple and their four month old son (who was bigger than Liam) and those boys had also had fun looking at each other, with Liam trying to explore the other boy by touch as well. But on the way home I got the space to myself and Liam had to content himself with looking out the window and climbing his stroller.
Of course, he also charmed the train conductor, who spent a good few minutes baby talking to him and smiling. I get a somewhat skewed version of Dutch life because I go through it attached to a very cute baby.
