With my two new American friends (of course here because of Dutch partners), we decided to celebrate Thanksgiving right. Well, not completely right because we couldn’t really do it on Thursday since our guys don’t get the day off, but on the Saturday. We split up the cooking and had a properly gluttonous time. We didn’t have turkey since they’re a little hard to come by here and Ivo and I don’t eat it anyway, but we had fish, a festive feast (something I made for the first time – a chestnut loaf topped with a mushroom ragout and wrapped in puff pastry), yams (with pecans and coconut!), green bean casserole, stuffing, garlic mashed potatoes, mushroom gravy, salad, cranberry sauce and homemade bread(!). And of course, pumpkin pie for dessert, along with a melted camembert/cherry dish. Unbelievably yummy.
The feast before devourement.
The babies. Aiden is only 12 days younger than Liam and they’re about the same size and developmental stage. It’s quite neat. Two little peas.
Luara and Joris, who unfortunately got subjected to too much talk of babies – sorry!
Sander and Angie, Aiden’s parents.
The boys had a wonderful time playing together and chasing each other around. It was quite funny hearing them clomping as they crawled after each other.
A very nice Thanksgiving indeed, and I’m thankful to have friends here now.
(Oh, and there are a few more pictures added to the Zeeland post. And we’ve figured out that Liam has actually been to all the Dutch provinces. Phew. I didn’t think we were going to make it if we still had to get to Limburg with Liam).
