First Dutch Job Interview

And wouldn’t you know, I sprained my ankle the night before slipping on the stairs. It’s a weird sprain too – my right foot was in a hurry to get downstairs but the left didn’t agree and stayed where it was, so ended up squished under my leg in sort of a Z formation. So the sprain is really to the top of the foot. But it was swollen and painful to move.

Despite that, I got to the interview – I went by bike, which is actually easiest with a sprained ankle. Typical Dutch, biking through farmland in a skirt and boots. The interview was for a consulting agency that has a sort of temporary agency for their clients – I’d applied for a Environment, Climate and Sustainability Consultant job but they booted the resume to the placement agency for a couple reasons. The interview was all in Dutch and it went well. However, the sticking point was, as it always is, my ability to write in Dutch – I can write in Dutch sufficient for simple purposes/emails, but writing reports/policy documents would be difficult at least for the first while. He ended by saying that he’d see what he could find where writing was less important. But, it was good to see that at least my skills/experience have value, even if I still need to work on the language.
