For our birthdays last year we received a gift certificate type thing to any one of several attractions. Of course, the one we were most interested in (a simulated free fall experience) was no longer happening by the time we called in January, so we were needed to choose another destination and use it before February 28. Of course, being us, that meant that we actually used it on February 28, and we chose the Dierenpark Europa (or animal park Europe), thinking Liam would enjoy that.
And enjoy it he did, although mostly the walking around outside bits. He didn’t seem to look at the animals too much, except for the big birds. But he loved walking by himself.
Of course, he did look at some of the animals – here he checks out the badgers.
And the camel.
And avoids being eaten by the giant badger.
He also really liked the slide.
And whatever this was. I think it was ducks.
The goats that we could walk amongst were OK – he at first headed for them saying “aaien”, which is Dutch for pet/stroke and which he says to the cats. But then we fed the goats and they all crowded around and that was a bit much. But here he’s OK – mostly because there’s something to climb up and down.
And the swing was just wonderful.
But really, running around was the best part.
After the zoo we headed to the grandparents to spend the night since we had a birthday party to go the next day. Liam had fun climbing the steep stairs (these are pretty normal for here).
And taking his bath in a full size tub.
And Papa read Pat the Bunny (translated on the fly to Dutch).
And they played peek-a-boo with Paul.
Mama got to sleep in in the morning while Papa fed Liam breakfast.
And then Opa took Liam off for a walk and captured Liam’s always epic battle against sleep. He’s fighting the urge.
Still fighting.
And he loses (as he always does, eventually).
