In the Netherlands, tradition says the old year has to be chased away with fireworks. Here’s what it’s like here in our quiet neighbourhood when the New Year comes in!<\/p>\n

Very different from Canada, but I actually think it’s fun. Well, except the guy with with orange smoke bomb on our street – why!?!?!!? But the fireworks provide a sense of ceremony and closure for the old year and celebration of the new year, and they are fun to watch. Even if it’s freezing and your hand has to be surgically removed from the sparkling wine glass afterwards. And everyone who’s stayed home comes out to watch, ensuring that you talk to your neighbours at least once during the year. <\/p>\n
