Onze Lieve Vrouwbasiliek (Basilica of the Virgin Mary). The south of the Netherlands remained and remains Catholic. It resembles a fortified castle, with high walls and embrasures. It was built before 1000 out of millstone grit. It was the central point of the city before the walls encircled the city in 1229. |
