SpeedyBikeGirls do Squamish

SpeedyBikeGirls do Squamish

Last night, I arranged a group ride to get to know some of the women on the website we hadn’t ridden with yet. And, after telling everyone to be there at 5:30, gassed up and ready to go, I got stuck in traffic getting out of Richmond and was late myself. And it was hot. And I was in full gear, and sweat was running down my legs and pooling in my boots by the time I got there. And…

To Diablo and back

To Diablo and back

Tackle and I had been looking forward to the May Long Weekend for months. We’d planned a 3 day trip to the Olympic Peninsula and Oregon Coast, and had 3 or 4 other people interested in coming along. But, as it grew nearer, it became apparent that the weather was going to be wet. Very wet. So, at the last minute, and faced with desertion by every other interested person, we decided to cancel and just go for a long…

‘Round Richmond

‘Round Richmond

We headed out tonight for a quick little jaunt around Richmond – a nice easy little ride along River Road to Westminster Highway, to Number 6 Road, to Steveston Highway, to Number 5, to the dykes, to Steveston, where we stopped for hot beverages, sitting outside so we wouldn’t get all warmed up. We then headed down Number 1 to River Road, but then had to head through a dirt parking lot outside the casino because the road was closed…

Supper in Squamish

Supper in Squamish

The SpeedyBikeGirls got together after work for a quick jaunt up to Squamish for dinner at a pub (it’s funny how this becomes a normal idea on a bike). Despite getting, um, misdirected a couple times in the search for gas, it was a great ride. The construction area was a little rough, but it didn’t slow up traffic too badly. It was the first time that several of the girls had been up to Squamish. It was a little…

Shopping with SpeedyBikeGirls

Shopping with SpeedyBikeGirls

The SpeedyBikeGirls took advantage of the good weather on Good Friday for a group excursion down to WA. We rode down through Sumas, got stuck in the Easter long weekend border traffic, and then hit the relatively open and winding roads from the border down to Sedro Wooley. These roads wend gently through valleys, and along rivers and railroads, skirting farms and pastures, with the forest never far away. The ladies lunched in Burlington, in a Mexican restaurant (a first…

River Road Again

River Road Again

I’m so loving riding. Of course, sometimes it takes me a lot longer to get home, especially when I decide to circumnavigate Richmond (municipality where I work – it neighbours Vancouver) on my way home. I can’t help it – River Road keeps calling me – it’s so tranquil and soul calming. Last night I hade to run an errand out that way, and I came home west along it as the sun was setting, turning the water pink and…

Familiarization Ride

Familiarization Ride

Took a slow and gentle ride out to see my parents today. It’s nice to be able to go and see them – they live too far away to get to by transit, and it didn’t seem fair to always make them come in. Couldn’t stay long because after dark is still cold, but it was nice to drop in. My stepdad showed me his latest paintings and I think I’ve put dibs on a couple. And I’m working on…

First Crash

First Crash

Well, I had my first crash – luckily it wasn’t very bad – I’m pretty much OK – some very pretty bruising, bruised or cracked rib, jammed fingers, but really nothing very bad at all. The bike is a little more messed up but fixable – she has a broken handlebar and some plastic damage – she’s at Clearbrook motorsports being fixed right now. Happened last Thursday on a group ride with BCSB folks. Took a corner a little to…
